Who this is for

If this is you, you are in the right place.

  • You have lost the same five kilos more times than you can count and gained them back with interest.
  • You are in your forties or fifties and the weight is settling around your middle in a way it never used to, even though nothing about your eating has changed.
  • You have done the shakes, the points, the fasting, the 1200 calories a day. Every one of them worked, right up until it didn't.
  • You have given years to your children and your family, and somewhere along the way your own body slipped to the bottom of the list.
  • You are hungry, tired and thinking about food all day, and you are starting to believe the problem is you.
  • You have been told your blood sugar or your bone density needs attention, and you want food to be part of the answer, not another thing to fear.

The problem was never you. The problem was the method. Restriction was always going to fail you, and the research has known that for decades.

Why the diets failed you

Restriction works against a woman's body. Here is what the research shows.

Most diets are built on one idea, which is to eat less. The evidence on what happens next is consistent and it is not encouraging.

Your body fights back

When you cut calories hard, hunger hormones rise, fullness hormones fall and your resting metabolism slows to protect you. This is not a weakness in you. It is biology doing exactly what it evolved to do.

You lose muscle, not just fat

On a low calorie diet without enough protein, a meaningful share of the weight that comes off is lean muscle. Muscle is your metabolic engine. Lose it and you burn less at rest, which is why the same 1200 calories that worked at 35 does nothing at 48.

The weight comes back

Across the long term studies, the majority of dieters regain most or all of the weight within a few years, and a large share end up heavier than where they started. Every cycle of losing and regaining leaves you with a little less muscle and a little more fat than the cycle before.

Midlife makes all of this harder

As oestrogen falls through perimenopause and menopause, fat storage shifts to the abdomen, muscle loss speeds up and your cells become less sensitive to insulin. Sleep gets lighter, stress runs higher and cravings get louder. Dieting harder on a body that is already under this much pressure is the reason so many women feel like they are doing everything right and getting nowhere.

You do not need more rules to follow. You need a framework that works with your hormones, protects your muscle and keeps you full.

A different framework

This is not a diet. It is the way of eating with the strongest long term evidence in the world.

The Mediterranean way of eating is the most studied dietary pattern in nutrition science, and it is the only one that consistently wins on the measure that actually matters, which is whether people can keep doing it.

It is built on what you add, not what you take away. Olive oil, fish, legumes, vegetables, fruit, nuts, real bread, cheese and yoghurt, herbs, and yes, wine with a meal. Slow food, eaten at a table, without guilt.

You stay full

Fibre, protein and healthy fats at every meal slow digestion and keep you satisfied for hours. When you are not hungry, you are not giving in to the pantry at 4pm.

Your blood sugar stays steady

Fewer spikes means fewer crashes, fewer cravings and less fat stored around the middle.

You keep your muscle

Protein at every meal, paired with the strength work I build into every program, means the weight you lose is fat and the muscle stays.

You can live like this

In a two year trial comparing eating patterns, women and men following a Mediterranean pattern lost more weight than those on a low fat diet and kept it off, with the biggest improvements in blood sugar going to those with diabetes. In a larger Spanish trial in older adults, a Mediterranean approach delivered weight loss that was still holding three years later. Diets that require hunger do not produce results like that, because nobody can stay hungry for three years.

Thousands of women across the world have lost weight this way, not because they tried harder, but because for the first time they were not fighting their own body.

What this does for your body

Built for the body you have now.

Weight loss without hunger

Real food, generous portions and a full plate. You eat more, not less, and the weight comes off steadily because your body finally has what it needs.

Muscle you keep, and build

After 30, women lose muscle every decade, and the rate accelerates after menopause. This framework protects lean mass with adequate protein at every meal and builds it with simple strength work. Stronger muscle means a higher metabolism, better blood sugar and a body that feels capable again.

Bone strength for osteopenia and beyond

Muscle and bone are partners. The same protein, strength work and nutrients this way of eating delivers, along with calcium rich dairy, leafy greens, fish and the polyphenols in extra virgin olive oil, give your bones the conditions they need. Population studies link the Mediterranean pattern with higher bone density in women, and resistance training remains the most powerful thing you can do for your skeleton. Both are built in.

Steady blood sugar

High fibre, healthy fats and low glycaemic carbohydrates keep glucose stable across the day. In the largest trial of its kind, a Mediterranean diet lowered the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by around thirty percent without any calorie counting at all. For women already living with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, this pattern consistently improves HbA1c and supports weight loss at the same time. If you take medication for blood sugar, we work alongside your GP, because as your eating changes your needs may change too.

Support through perimenopause and menopause

Women who eat this way report fewer hot flushes and better mood in several large cohort studies, and the pattern is the gold standard for the heart health that becomes so important once oestrogen falls. It will not replace medical care for menopause, and I will never pretend it does, but it gives your body its best foundation through the transition.

Results

What women tell me after they stop dieting.

This framework has been studied in tens of thousands of people over more than sixty years, and it is the approach I have used with my own body and with the women I work with. I am not going to put a number on this page that I cannot stand behind.

What I will tell you is what to expect. Steady fat loss of roughly a quarter to half a kilo a week, no hunger, better sleep and energy within the first two weeks, and a way of eating you will still be following in five years.

Questions women ask before they start

Before you begin

No. There is no calorie counting, no forbidden foods and no hunger. It is a pattern of eating with sixty years of research behind it, adapted for a midlife woman's body.

Bread, pasta and wine belong in this way of eating, and when you are losing weight you certainly do not need to give them up completely. In the 4 Week Mediterranean Reset we set bread aside for four weeks so the results come faster and your gut gets a proper break, then bring it back the way Italians actually eat it. You learn where these foods fit, how often, and what to serve alongside them.

Because everything you have tried was built on restriction, and restriction fails for reasons that have nothing to do with you. This framework feeds your body enough protein to protect muscle, enough fibre and fat to stay full, and enough real food to keep your blood sugar steady. The reason it works is the reason the diets did not.

You need to move, and some of that movement needs to be strength work, because muscle is the thing that protects your metabolism, your bones and your blood sugar through menopause. It is simple, it is doable and I show you exactly how.

Yes, with one condition. I work alongside your GP or specialist, not instead of them, and if you take medication we keep them in the loop as your eating changes.

Steadily. Expect roughly a quarter to half a kilo a week once the first fortnight has passed, and expect it to be slower in midlife than it was at 30. If you are building muscle at the same time the scales will understate your progress, which is why we track more than a number.

No. Consults run in person at Palm Beach or by telehealth anywhere in Australia. Everything else is online.

You have dieted enough.

If you have spent years losing and regaining the same kilos, if menopause has changed your body and nothing you used to do works anymore, if you have put everyone else first and you are ready to feel at home in your own body again, this is where you start.

If this is you, you know where to find me.
