The Mediterranean habit of eating seasonally translates beautifully to a subtropical climate, the produce is simply different.
Through the year
Summer brings stone fruit, mangoes, tomatoes and zucchini. Autumn brings eggplant, capsicum and figs. Winter is citrus, brassicas and pumpkin. Spring gives you asparagus, strawberries and new season greens.
Seasonal produce is cheaper, more nutritious and requires almost nothing done to it.
How to shop it
Buy what is stacked high and priced low at the market, then decide dinner. It is the reverse of how most of us shop, and it works.
