What the research really shows about the Mediterranean diet

A plain-English read of the landmark trials, what they measured, what they found, and what it means for your kitchen.

What the research really shows about the Mediterranean diet

The Mediterranean pattern is among the most studied ways of eating in the world. It is not a wellness trend; it is a body of evidence that has held up for decades.

The headline findings

Large randomised trials have associated a Mediterranean pattern supplemented with extra virgin olive oil or nuts with meaningful reductions in cardiovascular events, alongside improvements in blood lipids, blood pressure and markers of inflammation.

The intervention was not deprivation. It was more olive oil, more nuts, more vegetables, more fish.

Reading it sensibly

No single study proves anything on its own, and population trials cannot promise individual outcomes. General information only, for advice specific to your health, work with a qualified practitioner.
